Recently, the western extension project of Santiago Metro Line 6 in Chile, implemented by CRCC International under China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), reached a key milestone—the tunnel between Dalayres and Bremen stations was successfully bored through. This is the first tunnel section completed on the western extension route, marking accelerated progress in the overall project construction.

Chile's Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Telecommunications, Luis de Grange, attended the breakthrough ceremony and praised the project's achievements. The construction progress has also been covered by Chilean government agencies, the Santiago Metro operator, and multiple local media outlets, reflecting that the project's construction capabilities have gained local recognition.

Located in the Cerrillos district of Santiago, this project is a key public transportation project for local communities. The route extends westward from the existing Cerrillos station, with a total of approximately 2.9 kilometers of new tunnel to be constructed. The terminal station will feature an interchange hub, enabling future connections to Chile's state railway Melipilla line and achieving seamless connectivity between the urban metro and national railway network. The project scope encompasses existing station renovation, shaft construction, tunnel boring, and the construction and finishing of new stations, all demanding high construction standards and complex procedures.

The complex geological conditions at the construction site have posed considerable challenges to tunnel boring safety and construction efficiency. The project team conducted routine geological assessments, dynamically adjusted construction plans, and implemented rigorous safety and quality controls, successfully overcoming numerous construction difficulties. To date, 2.3 kilometers of the 2.9-kilometer tunnel have been excavated. As scheduled, construction of the station main structures will commence in late September 2026.

Upon completion, the project will connect multiple urban districts of Santiago, allowing residents to travel to the eastern part of the city without transferring via the city center. It will effectively alleviate passenger congestion on Metro Line 1, reduce commuting times, enhance the operational efficiency of local public transportation, and optimize the overall urban rail transit network.
